Khaleda’s bail extended till 14 Oct in Zia Charitable Trust graft

A Dhaka court on Sunday extended the bail of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia till 14 October in Zia Charitable Trust graft case, reports UNB.

Judge Md Akhteruzzaman of Special Judge Court-5 passed the order as Khaleda's lawyer filed a petition seeking an extension of her bail.

Khaleda's lawyers also responded to a show cause notice issued by the court on 30 September seeking an explanation as to why the bail of Khaleda Zia won't be declared illegal in the case.

The BNP chairperson is now under treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) under a special medical board formed by the government.

She has been serving five years' rigorous imprisonment at Old Central Jail, as she was convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on 8 February last.

On 8 August, 2011, the ACC filed the graft case with Tejgaon police station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia.
